What is a good job to start out with while in Nursing School???

Hello to you all. I have been on this website for a while now. I am interested in a career in nursing. While im in school I want to get a job in the medical field where I can work in a hospital. I was thinking CNA or LPN, but they mostly work in LTC and Rehab centers, and I would like something a little more fast paced while I take my pre reqs. What kinds of jobs are there in the medical field where I can work in a hospital?:)

My hospital hires plenty of CNAs, so you are not restricted to a LTC facility. Try to get in on a Med/Surg floor....It will be great experience later on in your nursing career. I also think (and have heard from CNAs on the floor) that hospital CNAs tend to be treated somewhat better than those in LTC facilities. The nurses and CNAs have a great relationship where I work. Besides for CNA a great start up job is unit clerk, it certainly introduces you to the health care field.

I would suggest working as a tech or CNA in the ER. You will see more and do more here than you will in any other setting. If you take initiative and seem interested you will likely have some good nurses who will be willing to teach you things and let you do things that are hard to come by as a student nurse in the clinical setting. Most importantly though, it will make nursing school even easier to get through.

Definately as a CNA in a hospital, but even doing LTC you will gain valuable skills as well. Yes, you can in some hospitals still work as a LPN. I worked 4 years on a med-surg floor as a LPN. Alot of hospitals phased out LPNs but some are starting to hire them back again.

You have to go to Nursing school, and pass your state boards to become a LPN. You cant just "get a job" as one. CNA requires training also. I would definatley try the CNA route. It gets your foot in the door and you can learn by seeing what nurses do. Good luck in what you decide!!!

Prereqs are demanding. It's a good idea to get some health care experience but wouldn't a slower paced job be a better choice if you can get one?

If you can get a job in an ER then do it! It will be the best decision you will ever make.

Although LTC is not what many think will be a learning facility, that's exactly where I started and you can learn at a much slower pac that diving directly into something high paced. I did, and within time I felt comfortable to move on. I never regretted it, and it helped as I moved on to bigger and better things.....

Does anyone know if they offer Full time jobs for cna and pca on weekend nights ( like fri sat sun 12 hr shifts) looking for a job in hospital while i go to school, but cant afford daycare on the starting salary! any suggestions?
