What about gas...

not flatus!! What are your companies doing to help with the cost of gas?

Gas is up about $1.00 a gallon over last year...and it's cutting about 120.00 a month off of my income. I know it's not just me, but what are others doing to cope, or are companies adjusting mileage compensation.

The agency I work for pays us the federal rate for mileage.

we are paid 39 cents a mile,

I didn't mean to leave out the fact, the co. I work for is at 36 cents a mile. Same as last year.

The fed. gov. allows 44.5 a mile. That is what the state agency I work for pays. It was upped by the gov back last yr to 48.5 until the first of this yr. Ours went up then also but has been reduced to 44.5 again.

hi all! This is one of my first posts here but thought this was significant since it has been on my mind.

I am a per diem employee at 2 different agencies so I do not get paid for mileage. I am told to keep track and claim it on my taxes. How does this work? Will I eventually get "paid" for this mileage or is is deductible income so to speak?

Deductible expenses:

Keep mileage from first patient to last one , odometer reading etc.---place on timesheet for work easy way to record (most places hace section for that) or just use notebook keep in car "Proof" for any IRS audit (rare).

If mileage extensive, can take portion of expenses for auto upkeep: oil change, tires , auto club etc.

Based on % time car used for "business" vs "personal use".

Also deductable:

Cell phone if condition of job

Nursing CEU's to maintain license

CPR training cost (condition of job)

Drug books,

Nursing bag expenses not covered

Malpractice insurance (A MUST)

There are formulas out there that tax accountants or software uses....that's DH job. ;)
