What do you do First Week of School?

Hi, this is my 2nd year but first year opening up school. I have the clinic ready but the office lost a secretary and they won't give me the health forms until mid 1st school week. Most nurses in my district are taking their health forms home this weekend to have lists prepared to give all the teachers. When do you do this? Also we went to a new software that isn't all the way running yet so we can't input immunizations or print them out or put visits in. And to top it off they haven't fixed my computer yet so I can't send or receive emails from the teachers. They painted this summer, unhooked everything, and this new computer guy doesn't know what he's doing. I've told the office and principal and since other teachers are having probs also, they said they couldn't do anything about it. In the mean time, parents are bring in meds, telling me the new kids extensive prob histories. Finding it hard to keep notes on this stuff since health books not put together yet. Had to go to some meetings and only had a couple of uninterrupted days to get clinic ready. Janitors were not good at putting shelves back on the wall, only wanted to come in and hide out. Keep reminding myself this is better than the hospital. Boss trying to get the nurses to schedule diabetic inservices, vision and hearing and 4 sessions of CPR already. It just looks overwhelming at this point but I remember it being better later on in the year. Say a prayer for me, thanks.

Hi....Hang in there...it will come together ! I remember my first years as a SN. I felt overwhelmend also. After the rush of start-up, things seem to settle down into a nice pattern. Then you can enjoy it.

Most years I get in my clinic and just sit at the desk and ask myself.. "What do I do now". !! Or should I say...what do I do first ! Everything coming at you all at once. But I must admit that I get the "itch" to come back to work at the end of every summer. I will also admit that I love leaving it all behind in June for a nice break ! Keep in touch and let us know how things are going for you. We start back in a few weeks :o Have a wonderful year!

So far I have been a school nurse for 2 whole days. It has been meetings, meetings and more meetings for me. School actually starts on Monday, though. Hopefully I'll be able to log into my computer by then. I can certainly identify with the "where do I start??" feelings. We'll see how it goes.
