Hey everyone,
I am graduating in may with my BSN, I know where I want to be on what kind of a floor. However, getting into one of those floors can be quite hard. I want to be in critical and in 5 or so years try CRNA school or flight nurse. I am just curious what was your first job? Was it your dream job? Did you love it/hate it? If you hated it and could do it over what would you do differently?
Thanks in advance for the replies it does mean a lot to hear from the community

My VERY first nursing job was at an assisted living facility back in 1991 just as I was starting nursing school. I was a Resident Care Aide...helped residents with their ADL's. Learned how to give insulin injections, change colostomy appliances.....passed meds on 3rd shift.
I graduated in 1997, when there was no real nursing shortage. I had been working as a CNA in a nursing home upon graduation and stayed on as a CNA even after having passed boards because the DON didn't have a job for me. Suddenly though once I had applied at another nursing home for an RN job, that DON called my DON before calling me for an interview because she didn't want to steal away an RN from another facility. The next DAY I had a job offer for PT at the nursing home. So I worked in a SNF when I first graduated. I KNOW it's not the job for me, working in LTC......but if things don't improve at my current place of employment, I may consider returning to LTC. The DON there told me if I ever needed a job, I'd always have one there...now isn't that nice??
