What was your first clinical like?

Published

I'm sure every instructor and program was different, but I'm just wondering - my first clinical is coming up soon and I'm a nervous wreck. We will be doing a nursing home the first time out and will each have one patient, I believe. We've had very brief practice in lab in how to turn a patient, make a bed with the patient in it, and do a bed bath, but I don't feel ready. Do you think we will be expected to do that stuff by ourselves the very first day with no further guidance? I just feel like I need a little more instruction - "bathing" a sim man is a lot different, I'm sure, from actually bathing a real person!

We had to go to a Nursing home for our first two clinicals and I hated every second of it. It stems from the fact that I do not like nursing homes in any way shape or form. We were responsible for one pt as well and gave all the meds, vitals and anything else they needed. Mainly we sat and talked with the residents and did different things with them since visitors can sometimes be scarce for them
