What has been your favorite clinical rotation in nursing school so far?

Just curious what clinical rotations you guys have enjoyed the most. I know at my school OB probably was one of the most popular..followed by Peds. Nobody really liked Psych or the adult rotations. Obviously my screen name says it all..I loved OB the most. I loved clinical so much..we were there for 8 hours and the time went by soooo fast. I have one more semester left before graduation and I will be doing my community clinical, but I doubt that will come close to OB for me lol. Then for the last 10 weeks I will be doing my role transition where I work as a nurse with a preceptor for 2 of her shifts a week..hopefully I will get the internship in Labor & Delivery which will really boost my resume' for applying into OB.

Each semester there was something i looked forward too because it was all new. I learned i hate psych quickly though. I always wanted to do OB/NICU, and those rotations we ok, but here in the last semester, i am 100% loving ICU-preferably surgical. That is where i did my preceptor, and i actually felt the responsibility and the adrenaline that i would imagine a nurse would feel. I cried when i was done. I applied there, and hopefully will know more in the next week or so. I cant see myself anywhere else...and mind you two months ago, the first time i stepped foot in an ICU, i passed out cold from fear...really i did..spent the whole day in ER, as the patient. I still would not mind NICU, if i could get on, which is hard to do here.

The thing about it is, my school requires that you do your internship in med surg or ICU...nothing else. So, i figured i had to get over my ICU fear and gain some skills eventually. Now here i am...hoping for a job!!!!

Specializes in med/surg, ER.

Advanced Med/Surg, hands down! It includes ICU and ER. I really liked ICU and am currently working as a nurse extern in the ER. Something for everyone:D OB was my least favorite with Peds right behind it. I'm so glad we are all different!

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Pediatrics, followed by Community (I worked with a school nurse at an elementary school), and OB. (Well, the babies and nursery parts of OB.. I didn't like dealing with the mommies so much.)

And I am super psyched to do my senior practicum in peds! (In our program, you can only choose a specialty if you get a Level 3 on the med-surg ATI exam. If not, you have to do med-surg.)

Specializes in NeuroICU/SICU/MICU.

I enjoyed Med/Surg 1, Peds/OB (the OB part more, but I think it's just because I had the best clinical instructor ever). I'm really excited for next semester, though. Advanced Med/Surg is where my heart is. CVICU, open-heart surgery in the OR, Heart Hospital ER, I can't WAIT :D
