What to expect? Oncology PCU

Specialties Oncology

Published

Hey everyone!

I was offered a position in an oncology PCU nights as a new graduate. The patient/nurse ratio is 5:1 and there is 11 weeks of training with both classroom and preceptorship. What should I expect from this type of floor? Any information you can provide would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm still not able to wrap my head around a 5:1 patient ratio and only 11 weeks of orientation (actually less than that if there is classroom training involved) for a true progressive care unit.

OP, do you know if your new unit does pressors, insulin drips, lasix drips, and noninvasive positive pressure ventilation?

Not all PCUs are created equal. Some function like tele units and some are closer to ICU stepdown.

Hi all,

I'd like to clarify. I was accepted to a critical care new graduate program that is 11 weeks with classroom and clinical work. Then I will begin orientation on my floor. I apologize for the confusion and I appreciate everyone's concern.
