What to expect first year at NGCSU Asn program

U.S.A. Georgia

I will start the ASN program in August and I need some advise from recent graduates or second year students. I have finished all my core classes for the ASN program and have began to work on my BSN core. I want to know how difficult the first semester Really is? I will have 6 hours of nursing classes and wanted to take a 3 hour english lit class, but don't want to overload myself. Can anyone give me an idea what to expect. Will I have time to study/read/write for an English class, when do clinicals begin, etc. Any advise, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's been a month since you posted, but I thought I would respond because not to long ago I was in your shoes. I'm a spring 2011 graduate. First year tends to be a shocker for most people due to the fact that how you study and learn is different than studying for a History class. I really can't tell you if you would be able to take English with nursing courses, only you would know that. Personally, I could only handle taking the nursing class, but I'm also a single parent of two boys and not working. There were some students taking a full load of prereq and nursing classes. Do not know how they did it. But to give you an idea I would rather take the English class during the 1st year than the 2nd year.

As far as clinical, we spent about a month doing lab type clinicals before starting in the hospital. We only had one day of clinical, which was either Wed or Fri and class on Monday. You will have to also do a couple of check offs that will make or break you.

If you don't have a mentor yet I wouldn't mind answering any other questions. My e-mail is [email protected]

Congrats by the way!

Hey Behilton,

Just read your post and wanted to ask you a few questions. I am about to start 2nd year nursing at NGCSU. I am very nervous about the upcoming semesters. Do you have any advice about how to make it through the semester. I am worried about the work load and how to manage my time and get everything done. Also, can you give me a heads up about how clinicals go. I have peds/ob this first semester. I am married with one child and worried about having enough time to get it all done.

Thanks so much,

Hi falconwidow,

Hope you are doing well as our summer is coming to a screeching halt. I am trying to be calm as I figure out how I am going to manage three kids, their activities, a husband who travels, and oh yea, school for me. I have read some people's post about an orientation, but I haven't heard any details, have you? I emailed the department today, so hopefully I will receive an answer soon. I was also interested in meeting you before the orientation, if you have time. Let me know if you are interested. You can email me at [email protected]. Enjoy your day!

ashleno and jroper --- how is it going so far??? I just took my TEAS V this past Monday and hope to enter nursing school next fall. I am very excited!!! I know you are both extremely busy already, but I hope you will update us here. I'd love to keep in touch!

Which campus are you on? I'm not sure which one to choose.
