What to expect from a CNA interview?

Published

I have an interview tomorrow morning for a CNA position at a hospital.

This is my second interview at this same hospital (I didn't get the job the first time).

What type of questions do they normally ask? I can remember a few from the last time but I want to get as much information about CNA interviews as possible.

Any advice and tips are greatly appreciated, thanks!

Know your conversions and how to record intake and output. Also, they may ask you to take them through the steps of some of your skills. Also, if it is your plan to obtain your BSN as a long term goal, make sure and let them know that you will be flexible as in, as a new employee, you aren't going to expect them to work around your school schedule nor are you going to resign if they aren't as flexible as you'd like them to be right off the bat.

It is very important to read their mission statement and know about the hospital's history. If their mission statement matches with your core values, it would be to your benefit to mention how or find some way to cultivate that in the interview.

When it comes to asking them questions, ask about their management style (do they have an open door policy?), ask them why the CNA positions are open. Ask them what kind of team building exercises do they incorporate and what does the hospital mission statement mean to them. One more thing, ask them how long they have been with the hospital and why.

Remember, you are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you. You are not inferior. You certainly want to know about them to determine if it's the right fit for you. It's no different from them asking you questions to get to know you to see if you'd be a good fit for them. Don't make decisions out of desperation.

Also, don't try to be a know it all. It's OK to say that you don't know something. They like brand new CNAs because you haven't acquired bad habits yet ;) I'm not saying act like a total ditz. I'm just saying be humble.

You can do this. Do some prep work, breathe and be yourself :)
