What equipment will I need?

Published

Hi everyone!

I am going into second year nursing as a student, and am thinking of equipment that I will need (other than my steth).

What equip/supplies would you not be without? Is there anything that I should be supplying for myself? I will be in adults, but unsure exactly what area.

Thanks.:coollook:

You don't need lots of equipment on you, practically everything you can find in the hospital. I think the main thing is a notepad that is pocket sized to write down things that you need to look up. One thing I wish somebody had told me is that a pen isn't good enough, you need one of those ones with 4 colours to distinguish between temperature and pulse because they seem to share the same graph space. I also like to drag around my drug guide because it's not always practical to take the ward copy, especially when you are doing a health assessment and trying to find what all the drugs are for on your lunch break and they aren't drugs that have come up at school yet so you're starting from scratch trying to figure out what on earth they are for.

Red, Black, Blue, Green-colored pens. A Spyghmomanometer, Rectal and Axillary thermometers. Tickler for taking down notes.

A pair of scissors. A tape measurer for TEDs. A torch pen. A tiny highlighter. The 4 colours in one pens are invaluable, I agree.

PS. Do you have the Royal marsden or the equivalent of in Aus? The pocket version is a 'life saver'.
