What is the difference between a clinical research nurse and a research coordinator

Is there a difference between a clinical research nurse and a research coordinator . Are the roles the same?

Generally, the clinical research nurse works directly with the subjects - enrolling, taking samples, educating and the like.

A research coordinator is not even necessarily a nurse (ours is a MSW) who keeps the study on track in terms of budget, IRB, regulatory affairs, reporting and such things. Typically, the coordinator never has contact with the subjects.

Thanks. I was just curious as I find that in some areas the nurse takes on both roles of enrollment, taking samples and an managing the study with site monitors, irb etc. and in other academic areas I ave worked the roles are separated.

I'm currently involved in a study in which I am principal investigator and everything else too. It's a little challenging, but it's non-clinical research so the regulatory stuff is not so intense.
