In my LPN program we didn't have an ER rotation. I know that in most hospitals this would be more of an RN role. What I know now is based on personal experience going to the ER. In my situation there was one nurse that takes the vitals then puts you in a room. Once you are in a room you are assigned a different nurse. Is the first nurse you see the triage nurse? What else is done in this role. Is there a difference in roles or responsibility from the nurse you have once your in a room?

The triage nurse gets your story, determines your triage level (how big of an emergency your situation is ex: asymtomatic STD check = 5, heart attack = 1) and might escort you to room if one is available.
The nurse assigned to your room does an assessment and works with the ER practitioner to get the pt diagnosed (collect labs, coordinate radiology), administer medications ordered to the patient, and disposition the pt (discharge with instructions or admit to hospital). S/he will also manage the care of an admitted patient who is still waiting on a room on a unit.
This is a very light version of the job.
