When is it considered one full round during a code? At what point does the one round end? And at what point does the second round begin during a cardiac arrest?
For us a round is the two minutes between pulse checks. So an 8 round code would be 16 minutes long. We don't usually refer to that when we're giving report or talking about the code though, we usually talk about total down time. So my report would go something like "Mr. X, 62 year old full code admitted last night with sepsis, coded on admission to ICU, total down time was 16 minutes." I do agree that Epi's would be a good alternative to refer to rounds, but with the inconsistencies in exact timing of doses(3-5 mins) it may not really give you good info to discuss the code with.
