What are my chances of getting into a nursing school?

Published

I'm currently a junior in high school whos dream job is to be a nurse. I maintain a 3.8 GPA and recently took my SAT for the first time in December and received a 1070 but plan on retaking them at the end of the year when I learn all the material needed to take the test. So with all that being said what do you think my chances are?

It depends on the school you are applying to. Some are more competitive that others.

Go to a local school of nursing web site in your area. The nursing major will have the admission requirements listed. GPA is great and I wish you success.

ditto 'it depends on your school'. google 'your town' + nursing schools and take an hour or so to go through their admissions requirements.

In my town most schools (3 out of 4) don't care about SAT - only ACT (if they care at all) and GPA.

I haven't seen many programs that admit students into the actual nursing program directly from high school. Most often, you will need to take a number of college classes before you can apply for acceptance into the nursing program. You may also have to take another standardized test (TEAS, HESI, etc), write an essay, and/or complete an interview. So, by the time you're applying to a nursing program, they won't be looking at your ACT or SAT scores nor your high school GPA. They'll be concerned with your college GPA, the grades you made on your prereqs, and how well you do in whatever other components that are part of their process.

Now, if you want to be accepted to the university or college that houses the nursing program you're interested in, then whether you have a chance depends on the school and even on other factors (volunteer work, leadership roles, and such). However, you can always do the prep work at a community college instead.
