So I've decided to make a major turn around in education. I guess I'll start from the beginning.
2003: Accepted into a private university, did horrible. Near 1.5 gpa, a few Fs, wasn't ready.
2004: A few B's and another F, still wasn't ready, I went to a junior college this year.
2005: Joined the Army and made it through combat medic school. Passed
2006-7: accepted into Respiratory Therapist program in Army. Passed
Since then I've been working on pre med classes with hopes of getting into DO school, since almost all DO schools have grade replacement programs, and all my retakes bring my GPA upwards of 3.6.
Bio for science majors 1 and 2 : A
Physics 1 and 2: A
Chemistry 1 and 2: A and B
Algebra: B (took this one while overseas on deployment)
Statistics: A
English 1 and 2: A took 2 and father, grandmother and uncle all passed away, got an F, retaking Eng 2 this summer.
History 1 and 2: C and C (I hate history)
Govt 1 and 2: B and 2 needs to be taken
This is just an example of my current trend. I have a few dropped classes, but they all happened due to deployment or during that time of the deaths in my family. I feel I can explain myself well.
I took the MCAT without Organic Chem and scored a 30S which is pretty good without some of the med school prereqs. Not worried about the TEAS at all. Taken multiple practice tests, and I'll be suprised if I score less than mid 90s. Science and Math are my loves!
So I will have a CRT (certified respiratory therapist licence) BLS, ACLS, PALS, as well as RPSGT (registered sleep tech) when I apply.
I volunteer teaching cpr to low income families.
I feel I have turned my life around from the first few years of school, and am looking into getting into UTHSCSA RN program.
I see the break down of how they score for acceptance and the biggest chunk goes to the TEAS V.
The break down is something like this
Teas v 5 : 59%
prereqs: 20%
cum gpa: 10%
Essays : 1%
My goal before this was med school with PA school as a backup plan. The thing is, if I decide to stop after the degree, jobs in biology are not great, nor is income. With a BSN program, I can still finish my bachelors degree, and if life gets in the way, I can make a decent income as a nurse. It isn't a big jump from rt as far as pay goes, but the ladder to better jobs and vacancy in a plethora of settings is far better than rt. My goal is eventally to get into a NP or CRNA program, but I'll worry about that after I finish school.
I plan to work full time in a sleep lab on the weekends while in nursing school, as this will give me tons of time to study, and get paid doing it.
any advice or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

So how far away from getting a BS in Biology are you?
The reason I ask is you do seem like a prime candidate for PA school. Depending how far you are in your program, it may take you longer to get into a nursing program than to graduate with a Biology degree.
If it is a slight delay, I don't see an issue with getting a BSN and then proceeding to apply to PA schools.

First of all - THANK YOU for your military service. We are all very grateful for the sacrifices you and your fellow vets have made on our behalf.
Sounds to me as though you have a very well-developed plan that will undoubtedly succeed! I am glad to hear you are aiming at UTHSCSA - that's where I got my BSN (back in the Stone Age). Have you already been accepted? I know that SA-area schools are very competitive. If you're a TX vet, are you Hinson-Hazlewood eligible? If so, you may want to consider Incarnate Word as well - it's pricey, but has small class sizes with a lot more faculty interaction.
Wishing you the absolutely best of luck
