What are the cases that could be done in a Day Surgery Unit

can someone please help me make a list of all the procedures that could be done in the day surgery unit instead of just labelling it minor surgeries? thank you!

My ASU we do the following:

eyes:

Cataracts

Pterygiums

Ortho:

Knee athroscopies

ACL Repairs

Shoulder Arthroscopies

Rotator cuff

General Surgery:

Inguinal hernia repairs

Umblical hernia repairs

Lap choles

Urology:

TRUS

lithotripsies

Stent placements

GYN

D&Cs

Suction D&C (TOP)

Suction D&E (TOP)

Podiatry:

Bunectomies

Hammertoes

Oral Surgeries:

ORIF/CR Mandible fractures

These are all I can remember for the moment.

I would add for ENT the following:

Tonsillectomy

Adenoidectomy

FESS/SMR/Septoplasty

Hemi-Thyroidectomy

Bilat. Myringotomy with tubes

Specializes in NICU, ER, OR.

I & d of PERIRECTAL! ABCESS. I GET SOOO MAD WHEN WE HAVE ONE AT 3 AM

PLUS ALL OF ABOVE

Would plastic/cosmetic surgery fall under this too? I know some plastic surgeons (in my area at least) have their own day surgery centers. Also, is it common for new grads to get hired at these day surgery places or are they better off starting in a hospital OR? I ask because I can eventually picture myself working at a place like this in the future, after nursing school.

Most plastic surgery cases that don't require a hospital stay are done at surgery centers. As an OR nurse you need to start in the hospital as a new grad and learn the foundation of OR nursing.
