What can I do about a student who gets rashes constantly at school?

I'm at a loss as to what to do about this...

A student gets semi-regular rashes at school. She is incredibly uncomfortable and no matter what I try (including prescription lotions, OTC anti-histamines, MD recommended soaps, etc.), she gets no relief at school. The MD has verified that they are not contagious, so I don't need to send her home. But, she's so uncomfortable and can't stop itching that she usually does end up going home.

Mom's good about taking her to the MD, but they're not getting any answers. I've been encouraging them to see an allergist, but they're reluctant.

I guess, basically, there's nothing else that I can do, right? Try the remedies that I have, and send her home if she's so uncomfortable she can't focus? I just don't like not being able to fix things!

This kind of thing annoys the mess out of me. What if its psoriasis and there's a great med for it? Or what if she's super sensitive to the stuff they clean the tables with? Just because its "just a rash" doesn't mean its not a sign of something more serious. A rash after eating dairy products is a sign of an allergy and next time it could escalate to more than just a rash. Even if they haven't made a connection to what is causing the rash, it still warrants a deeper look to fix the underlying problem, which could be more serious than "just a rash". Have you tried explaining to the parents that different diagnoses can manifest in different ways for people? Maybe they don't quite get the seriousness with unexplained s/s. Her body is telling her something is wrong and they need to figure it out before it escalates to a level they'll wish they never reached. On the flip side, it could really just be something super simple as changing their laundry detergent. I hate when parents don't want to fix their kids health issues. Like, its more appealing to them to complain about them than to actually do something about it. :cautious:
