What can I expect during emergency attendant interview?

I need your help:)

I just finish my third semester in ADN program. I applied to emergency attendant position. I have interview.

Any suggestion will help me a lot.

1) What kind questions they probably will ask?

2) How can I prepare?

I already bought emergency nursing book.

3) Where can I find emergency procedures?

Please!

The book is great, but you aren't being hired as an ED nurse- so I don't think the book will help you prepare for a job you aren't being interviewed for. :) Just answer the questions honestly- they can ask a lot of different things- not all that easy to narrow it down. :)

Emergency procedures are likely facility specific. Emergency nursing book is good but may be too much information for a position as a tech. Many emergency departments require EMT-B certification/experience for ER Tech jobs, even for nursing students.

Most likely they will ask about your experience and training as it relates to emergency settings (such as EMS, first aid course). May ask about your education and background. They may ask how you have performed and/or in previous emergency situations (such as an sick/injured child or family member). Why you think you'll be a good fit for the job.

Google employment interview questions and that should be a good place to start.

I am in an emergency externship. At my interview, they asked questions like:

- why do you want to work in emergency

- what skills are you comfortable with & which do you need practice

- tell me about a mistake you made and how you handled it

- tell me about a time you used therapeutic communication

- as a student nurse how would you help the team in an emergency

I am really nervous. My interview will be with nurse manager. Is it possible that they will ask me to show some skills such as FSBS, vital signs?

Skills demonstration was not a part of the interview I had years back. But it is likely if hired your skills will be evaluated by the department or facility nursing education department in addition to the rest of the facility/department orientation.

I worked as an ED tech for two years. I wasn't a nursing student then, but I am now. I lucked out being an MA for 10 years and working in Urgent Care and they liked my experienced. However, I worked with A LOT of nursing students who were also ED techs.

The job function is really awesome. Working on codes, trauma patients, doing blood draws, In & Out catheters, wound dressings. I've held broken bones in my hands, and assisted many times on CPR on someone who has made it and who hasn't. The downtime is usually stocking the rooms, etc. Our ER was really awesome in letting out techs do the max within scope. A few things we had to do specific training on, such as the In & Out catheters but we get out certificate for that. Also we were a stroke and chest pain facility so I also got another cert for that.

The interview will basically consist of things like, "how do you respond to stress?" or "name a time where you had to make a critical decision and how did it work" "what would you define teamwork as?". stuff like that. Of course you'll get the question I'm sure is, "why do you want to work in the ER or (be a nurse)" Give them good solid answers with explanations! Employers are looking for things like, "time management skills, stress management, desire to work in related field" etc.

The pay varies. My base pay was about $12.50 (in Texas) but I worked 3-11 and got a $1.50 diff and would pick up weekends which was like another 1.50. So I would always volunteer overtime on the weekends! Made some decent money. Good Luck to you. I am starting LPN school in Sept., waiting on the RN list was just too long, who needs two associates anyway? I'll just go for my BSN, but me making more then MA pay while doing it at least!! ;)
