Trauma season is upon us, and I have to admit, more outlandish things have been happening! I want to hear from you guys about the most bizarre experience you have had in your nursing career.

Another bizarre experience:
About 10 years ago, a trauma pt came in to the OR after being in a car accident. His foot was traumatically amputated. A Good Samaritan stopped to help and put the pt's foot (with the work boot still on the amputated foot) in his cooler. Apparently, the GS was a construction worker and kept a cooler full of ice water for his crew. I was a new OR nurse at the time, and it was a completely surreal experience for me to open the "Igloo Party Barrel Cooler" and see a Timberland work boot with a bloody tibia sticking out.
