What is the best way to commission into the Air Force as a nurse?

Published

Hello,

My name is Carolina. I am currently expected to begin my freshman year at the Air Force Academy this upcoming summer. I love the Air Force, and my ultimate goal is to work for the Air Force as a nurse. I am wondering which path I should take to become a nurse. I was at a ROTC student at college last year, and was about a year away from applying to upper division nursing programs. I have 4 classes and a CNA license standing in the way of applying for a upper division program. So whats your advice? Stick it out at USAFA and apply to the graduate health professional scholarship to attend nursing school after 4 years, go to UNC through ROTC, or just go to UNC but not through ROTC (commissioning through OTS)

I appreciate your feedback/advice!

Hey Carolina!

If your goal is to become a nurse I would go through the ROTC route, if it is able to reach your dreams and goals quicker, then do it.

ROTC is good benefit cause you are able to live your life as a civilian student while getting paid to go to school. The Academy has limitations, I been the Academy before and some of the cadets told me they wished they want to a civilian school. The Academy is strict especially to fourth and third class cadets. The Academy has limited majors to choose from, they mainly focus on the basic sciences, aerospace and engineering.Go to a civilian school that has a nursing school.

All that aside, if your goal is to become a nurse then stick with ROTC.
