What areas in TX are hiring in hospitals?? What are my chances at job placement??

U.S.A. Texas

Hi Everyone

I'm currently in Northeast Wisconsin and would like to relocate. Job market in majority of WI is tight and has been for the last 2 years or so. My experience/history and schooling include 4 years SNF nights will complete my BSN in May '12. Only 3 months experience on Med/Surg floor during school as extern position. SNF that I work at is a combo of short term rehab from fresh hips, knees, surgery and oncology and long term.

I want/need hospital experience before I make my next step in my education into a DNP program, would like to start out on med/surg and transition into CICU or SICU?

What are my chances and should I do anything to look more attractive to future employers?

Thanks in advance for all feedback.

In my limited view (several friends who have been in and out of job market) there are openings here in DFW. I know that there are two new hospitals being built within 10 miles of my home - one is going to be a large full-service hospital and one a boutique hospital. I think the job prospects in North Texas look pretty good.

I think you've done all you can with working in healthcare for 4 years - you shouldn't have a problem. If you want to PM me, I can give you some more info on the various hospital systems here.

Good Luck!

Sanuk,

Thanks for the reply. There are several areas in the south that I've been looking into, Texas being one of the recent considerations and I really haven't looked into the hospital systems down there yet. But it has quickly come to the top of the list seeing as though some other areas that I thought would have a good job market do not. I'm going to do some more research and if I have some questions I will definately ask. Thank you so much :)

Anytime! I don't think we've been hit as hard with the economy as other places. Plus, no state income tax. :)

The real truth is that most of the major metro areas in TX are completely saturated and new grads are not falling easily into positions in the hospitals. I would definitely not move unless/until you already have a firm actual offer in place. My hospital reported their ratio for the internships beginning this past June was over 300 outside applications for 11 openings. That didn't include those applying who already have positions at the hospital. It is rough out there right now.
