WGU Houston 2021/2022

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

Hi all! I was accepted into the BSN Prelicensure program this past Friday. I am a part of the December cohort in Pearland, TX (in the Houston metropolitan area). If anyone wants to compare their credentials against my own to see if you have a good shot of getting in, here you go:

Science GPA -  2.66. I made B's in both Micro and A&P 1, while I made a C in A&P 2. As long as you have at least a 2.5 GPA in these three courses, you will be fine.

Overall GPA - 3.33. This was my GPA among the 10 prereq classes they require (including the science courses above). From what I gather, they use the science GPA as a baseline to see if you're eligible. If you have the required 2.5, they'll "disregard" it and only look at your overall GPA for the rest of the admissions process. So if your science GPA is a little low like mine was, I don't think it's that big of a deal if your overall GPA is good.

TEAS - I made an 87 on my TEAS. I made an 80 on Reading, 100 on Math, 88 on Science and 86 on English Language. To get a high score, I used the ATI Comprehensive Study Package which was $249. It really helped a lot. If you can afford this, I highly recommend it over the other study books you'll find on Amazon, eBay, etc. The ATI package is tailored by the creators of the exam and goes over all the information that is necessary to do well.

Hope this helps! Has anyone else gotten accepted into any cohorts in November, December or January 2021? Hope to see you guys soon in labs, clinicals, etc!

Congratulations jrich21!!
I’m really interested in prelicensure program and I have a couple of questions.  Were you accepted to the Houston, Baytown, Texas city, or The Woodlands cohort? I noticed you said cohort in Pearland so is that a new location for clinicals? Thanks.

Hi! So, the program has multiple start dates and each start date is at a different location. I told them that I wanted to be considered for the December start date, so that one just happened to be for the Pearland location. However, if I had chose the January start date, it would have been somewhere like Methodist, The Woodlands, or somewhere like that. I’m not sure exactly what locations correlate to which start date. For that, you would need to talk to your enrollment counselor.

If I’m not mistaken, the Pearland clinical site has only been around for a year or two? I’m not too sure.

@jrich21 Hey I just have another question. Did you have a bachelor degree before applying to ? Thank you for your help.

Hey, no I do not have a bachelors degree.

Hello! I joined the nursing program in November of 2021! I will be at the Floresville, Texas location for clinicals. I will be going to Houston soon for clinicals as well so I hope to see you there!

I had already taken Statistics. Not biochem. I recently finished my Biochem course through as part of the program. Took me about a month to complete it.

Hi! I'm curious to know how your experience at this school has been so far? I'm searching for and I cant find reviews.

Quick question…for the letter of recommendation I heard has a form that professors can fill out instead of writing. Is that true? Where can I find it? Ty.
