WGU Graduates becoming Nurse Practitioners

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hello graduates,

I am interested in either becoming a Nurse Practitioner or a Nurse Educator and I am probably going to be attending WGU for my BSN. I know that you only come out of WGU with a 3.0 GPA though so I am worried about getting into another school for NP or education.

Who has successfully gone to WGU and gotten their NP? How did you do it and what school did you go to? Was there anything special you had to do to make up for the 3.0 GPA or did certain schools accept you with no problem?

I'd appreciate every bit of help anyone can give me!

Thanks everyone!!

Hi, I did my MSN @WGU and I'm starting a post MSN @Duquesne Univ in Fall. I was also accepted to other universities so it's not a big deal. If you want to go on to a DNP, you may want to see if there are higher GPA requirements for your undergrad/grad combined.

Specializes in Operating Room, labor and delivery.

I completed my BSN at and was accepted to two FNP programs, and I was waitlisted at Frontier Nursing University.

I can tell you that you would be considered to most FNP programs. The only problem as you already know is that your grade will be a flat 3.0 gpa. If the rest of your application is strong I don't think it matters too much.

Schools I applied to:

Clarkson College, University of Cincinnati, and Frontier Nursing University.

Hi I’m a grad as well. Graduated with my FNP last December. I was accepted to three schools...so don’t sweat, it wasn’t an issue at all! Good luck!

I graduated from and I am finished and about to start work as an NP, I think that the least of your worries is going to be an acceptance to a college. I believe that the schools understand the different grading scales of WGU. WGU is a California approved school and this state is strict so I know you will not have any problems. I received my degree from Walden University for MSN-FNP.

Congrats. Which school accepted you?
