Western University MSN-E 2018

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I haven't seen any forums about the upcoming application for next year's MSN-E program so I thought I'd start! I have a degree from University of Oregon in Human Physiology with experience as a Medical Scribe and in a variety of PT and Chiropractic settings! (Switched from PT/Kinesiology to Nursing!) I'm interested in the FNP track and am really excited about Western. Feel free to post any questions/stats/etc and join me in freaking out over apps! Are any of you attending any of the upcoming information sessions as well?

I applied to Western University's 2018 cohort as well. I finished all my pre-reqs this past summer with a GPA of 3.7 and have my overall GPA as a 3.85.

My bachelor's degree was in Health Science and I've been in healthcare for about 8 years now with experience in administration, community health, geriatrics, pediatrics and in hospital/clinic settings.

Good luck to everyone! I hope we hear sooner rather than later!!

I went to the information session this past August and found it extremely useful.

Hey guys! So I am interested in Western as well! but I will not be applying until fall 2019 since I am currently doing my BS in Health Science. Does anyone know how much the tuition is for the whole time completed? I tried comparing to other schools and am debating which one is best such as UC or USC. I also wanted to read the reviews on the school but their facebook page school reviews has a lot of spams. Does anyone know of anyone that is attending or has attended this school?

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone heard about interviews? I received an email stating that my application is still with the Admissions committee.

Nothing yet on my end. But they did extend the deadline to Nov 1st, so that might play a role in the delay. Interviews are given in January, maybe we will hear back late Nov- early Dec?

Last year, folks received emails on December 15 about Early Acceptance Opportunity Day. Their deadline was also extended to November 1. Hopefully we will hear back around the same time!

Heard a lot of great things about this program

Hi everyone, I was also told my application is still with the admissions committee.

Hi everyone,

I applied to WesternU for fall 2017 and was chosen as an alternate. Unfortunately, I didn't get a seat, but I reapplied for Fall 2018:) Now let the waiting game begin. Last year they started sending emails out in December for early admission. I received an invite for an interview in January and found out I made it as an alternate in March- so it is a timely process and it's so hard not to check your email every 5 minutes! The information sessions are very helpful, and a couple students are there to answer questions you may have. I️ wish you all the best of luck and look forward to hearing everyone's updates on here.

I went to the preview day this weekend and it was very helpful. I was able to confirm with a counselor that all of my information had came in. I did not get a tour of the whole school, but we did go to a lot of the places that the nursing students tend to spend most of their time. We got to talk to students that are in various parts of the program. Some students were just finishing their first semester and others were finishing their fourth semester, so it was nice to hear all the advice that they have for us. The financial aid session of course was not fun, but I did learn about how the loans work and how work study would come in to play if I chose to do that. If you haven't been I do recommend it.

A total of 467 students applied to the program, and only 60 of us will get in. There are a number of ways that they assess us, it is not solely on grades. From what the dean and the director of the MSN-E program were saying the event for the early acceptance students would occur in January. You talk to students and faculty, and at the end they decide if you would be a good fit for the program they have there. Just because you get invited does not mean you are in. Last year they invited 40 students, only 20ish went. Then there are the interviews that will start in January, even if you go to the event for early acceptance you may be asked to go to an interview. You will be interview by two people. Make sure to dress professionally. Are applications are also read by to people and are given point. They second grader does not know how many points your application was given or who viewed it.

That's all I can think of there was so many things covered. I know it's risky but I am not going to apply anywhere else. I really like this place. I know it is expensive, but I really hope I get in, or at least get called in for an interview. One more thing, some people don't find out that they got in until welcome week, so there is always hope.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

@Mo.the.nurse - Thank you for all the helpful information!

I applied back in September and also recently received an e-mail stating my application is still with the committee. I guess that's just their usual status update but any correspondence makes me super nervous!

Good luck everyone!

Hi all,

I haven't received any updates about my application. However, I've been admitted to USF's E-MSN program and have already committed to it. I wish you all good luck and hope that you hear good news very soon! Have a great thanksgiving :)

Congratulations! Is it their program in Orange county or at the actual campus?
