Western Career College, Antioch Campus LVN Graduates/current students!!!

Published

Hello to all,

I have a meeting @ WCC(Antioch) tomorrow to discuss the LVN Program, & I wanted feedback from past or recent graduates at the Antioch campus. I know when I go tomorrow that they will make the program look great & hide the negatives. If there is anyone better to get info from I think it would be the students.

I recently graduated from a cna/hha program & would need to work as a cna while attending the program. I also have a 15mth old baby that requires my attention, is this the program for me? I also called the San Jose campus just to compare the info & SJ told me I would have to work grave yard, while Antioch said I would not be able to work & do the program.

I would like to know:

Would you recommend the program?

Is it true that you could take some courses at JC to possibly lower tuition?

How are the teachers?

Did you find time to keep a job & attend the program?

What are the pros & cons?

What is the schedule like?

Can I take the LVN-RN at JC, do the credits transfer to JC/4yr?

Is the program worth the investment time/money?

Where you able to find a job?

How do places feel about wcc lvn graduates? Is it hard to get a job because your a wcc graduate?

Sorry, so many questions. Thanks to all & congrats to the graduates!!

Not a graduate, but I have looked at the price of their LVN program and its just not worth it. I will be paying less for my entire 4 year degree then you will for this cert.

Quoted "43,000 for the whole program" oh heck no. You can't possiably think it is ok to pay that kind of money for an entry level education. You will be paying that loan forever and I dont think you can afford it (its nearly 500 a month for the next ten years to pay off).

PS use search https://allnurses.com/ca-nursing-programs/anyone-attended-western-44990.html

it is a year old, but it should open your eyes about paying 43k (I really think I could do two complete BS (between cc and state school)for that amount)for a job that averages 16 dollars an hour.

I'm currently a LVN student at western career college. I would recommend the program if you're looking for a way to get in and out of school real fast. As far as the training, I think they teach you what you need to know and to pass the nclex. You can take anatomy & physiology, nutrition, and growth and development at a community college so that in term one you'll only have one class. And you'll save about 6,000 dollars. The teachers... well some are not very reliable or smart, but there are some that you can learn so much from. It really depends. I quit my job before I started the program, which I regret. You will definitely be able to work during first term, but maybe not second. The workload is a lot heavier in term 2. The schedule during term 1 really depends if you will be taking the prerequisites. If so, you will have lab on a Monday, Prerequisites on Tuesday and Wednesday until 3:30 or 4:30, Thursday and Friday clinicals. Right now in Term 2, I am in class until 430 everyday. The credits do not transfer to JC. However, your JC credits transfer to Western. Confusing. Hope that helps

thanks k_renee13, i will start classes october 2010

Congrats & good luck :)
