West Coast University - BSN Program

U.S.A. California

Hi Everyone,

I got a 75% on my TEAS V test. I know I needed to get at least 85% on my Teas V score to be competitive on most BSN programs.

I found out that West Coast University is now accepting Teas V scores with a minimum score of 58%. So with a 75% score on the Teas V, I was a qualified applicant and I didn't have to take their HESI exam.

Once you're qualified based on taking their HESI or Teas V, the biggest qualifying factor you have is getting approved for Financial Aid or Private Student Loans. If you have all your finances straight, then that's when they secure your spot in their Nursing Program.

However, my biggest gripe right now and most of the students that I have spoken with is that they have a weird system of transferring credits. Each student I spoke to had different experiences on what classes transferred to that school and what didn't.

For example, WCU transfered all of my science classes that I took at Los Angeles Valley College:

Anatomy

Physiology

Microbiology

Psychology - Intro

Psychology - LifeSpan

BUT, they didn't transfer my General Chemistry.

They transfered my CAL STATE LA:

English 101/102 but they said that both my English 101/102 class that I took only transfers over to their English 140 Written Communication I, but not to their English 140 Written Communication II.

They also didn't transfer the following G.E. classes that I took in CAL STATE LA:

Philosophy

College Mathematics

Public Speaking

Their reason is that CAL STATE LA is a Quarter system and WCU is a Semester system. This is how they calculate it: 1 quarter unit = 0.67 semester unit

In addition, if they don't think your class is equivalent to their class they won't accept it as transfer credit.

My biggest advice is to go to their transfer credit website: 4

Not really... im about 40 mins away. I live in Carson. Where do you live? But they did tell me that the campus where we will be having our actual classes is in La Palma which saves me like 8mins or so. So hey ill take it. Also another question, what graduation date did they give you?? since you transferred a lot of classes i know it cuts down your time.

Oh ok that's not bad, I used to live in Carson but I'm in bellflower now which is alittle closer. They gave me a grad date of April in 2020, seems like a long time but I'm sure it will fly by. What is yours?

Omg how funny...me too. They told me that I would start core classes in June 2018. My tentative schedule says 2 classes starting in Jan, and other 2 classes 2nd semester then core. We probably transferred all the same classes.

Omg no way! Thats so crazy. Same here! I'm suppose to start the core in June too. Yeah your right, we probably did transfer the same classes. Just two classes from the cc I went to didn't transfer to WCU but everything else did.

Same here.. only 2 didn't. Well I look forward to meeting you on Dec 15th.

Same here, it was nice talking to you. I'm Jasmine by the way

Oh yeah... im sorry I never gave you my name. Im Rachal. ... ill be the old lady from the bunch. I have a feeling í ½í¹ˆí ½í¹ˆ

Nice to meet you! I'll see you soon

I am also suppose to start in January 18. Im glad to see there are others along this ride. I also only had 2 classes that I didn't transfer in. I'm anxious to see how it goes based on all the comments regarding the school.

Oh the 18th, that's cool! I'll be starting the 22nd. Like you said, I'm also glad I'm not the only one going through this journey which is great, since we're newbies we can all support eachother! I'm in the same boat with you, only 2 of my classes didn't transfer in so I got to get that out the way. I'm just excited to start core!

Oops I meant Jan 2018 heh but I am scheduled to start the 22nd as well! When are you scheduled to start core? I think I don't start until August since I have 2 general to finish up. Will you be attending tomorrows Registration Day at the Anaheim campus as well?

Oh ok gotcha! I start the nursing core in June ugh it seems like an eternity from now! I'm so anxious, I've looked up and read soo much information about actual nursing programs and tbey seem awesome. Yes i will be at the registration at that campus as well, we'll see eachother there! What's your name? I'm Jasmine.
