West Chester University? Alvernia?

Hi everyone-

I'm looking to any information on WCU, specifically their Accelerated BSN program but I'll take info on any aspect of their nursing school. I haven't heard much (or anything) about it, and the website leaves a lot to be desired. Also Alvernia, which is closer to me but lacks an accelerated 2nd degree program.

I'll be honest-- the reason I'm interested is the price. I went out-of-state for my bachelor's in psychology and while I had a great experience, I can't see myself going into even more debt for a second bachelor's. My plan is to move back in with my parents in PA for my nursing pre-reqs and nursing school, and then start taking out the loans again for my masters (CNM).

If anyone has any suggestions on other affordable schools within commuting distance from the Pottstown/Reading area, I would love to hear them!!

(Oh I will probably be applying to UPenn's BSN-MSN program too... but that's just a dream!)

I know Kutztown has a program as well, but I can't tell you much about it.

Kutztown has an RN to BSN program only. No regular BSN.

I applied to West Chester this year....and today I just got invited to have an interview with them. They are very selective because they only take 22 students or something like that out of 180 applicants, and they said they were only looking for people with all the prereqs done, but I don't have a stellar gpa or all the prereqs done and they are actually considering me!!! So I would go for it!

Would it be ok if I ask you a few questions about the WCU program? I received my BSED from them and I am within a year or two of entering an accelerated program for nursing. I spoke with the nursing chair about the program. Although she was very nice I didn't get much info from her. I wanted to know how much night & weekend stuff is expected since many programs offer a choice of either a day program or a night/weekend program. She seemed confused by my question and told me that during the fall and spring the classes are during the weekdays and the clinicals are 6 hours on Sat & Sun.

Can you elaborate a little on this?

The HR director at Presbyterian highly recommended WCU to me- she said that the school itself isn't well known, but that they put out great nurses.

It's on my list.

Call them up- they are very helpful over the phone and the woman I spoke with walked me through how to access their prerequisite equivalency list. I'm still waiting on application materials for Fall 2009, but it seems like phone is the best way to get info.

please inform me about how intense this program was. I am organized and have good study skills but my B.A was in Criminology/Sociology so studying for science maybe a difference.

How was the program? Did you stay on campus? What was your accumulative gpa and science gpa? My science gpa is a 3.4 and my accumulative gpa is a 2.65( yeah i know:bugeyes:)............just trying to figure out my chances of being accepted

Did you consider the accelerated nsg program at DeSales University, Villanova, or Upenn? Having gone through West Chester's undergrad bsn program, I am a little biased toward to the college, I must admit lol.
