Are there any West Central Tech students on this site? I wanted to find out what your GPA and NLN scores were, when you entered the prgram. I have a 3.2 GPA and an NLN score of 94. Am I competitive enough? How is the program? Do you like it?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you b1017thompson. I tried calling the school and they did not give me any information. The lady told me it could be another 2 to 3 weeks.

Hi

Can you please help me. I have to take the NLN exam and need to know if I need to be studying the NLN entrance exam review book or someone told me to get a GED book and study that.. Please help. Theres alot of info in this book and it seems overwheliming. thanks

Hey Janis, I'd be glad to tell you.

I am starting the nursing program at WGTC this Fall. I took the pre-NLN last Oct and fortunately, made a 99.

Here is how I studied: I bought a pre-NLN review book off half.com (the most recent edition or either it was the one that came right before that-not sure-and I sold it to a classmate after taking the test, so I cannot check)

I copied (with a copier) all the tests in the book-never even wrote in the book. I'd take a test (not timing myself or anything) and score it. I would make extra copies of each test and retake the same test until I made a "100". I skipped around and did not study/take the same test one after another-I might take the 1st English test and score it, then work on the first Science, then math, then go back and retake the first english, etc. I also took all the practice tests in the first part of the book. I read the math formulas, etc in the study section and took notes on them (as a refresher-I was 39 and had been out of college since '91)

The pre NLN was similar to the review book, but obviouly, not exactly like it. I aced the math and missed none-I attribute that to my studying.

Start studying now. I studied for about 3 weeks before taking the test, spending 30 min to an hour per day just taking practice tests and scoring them. It worked for me. I did this all while working full time, raising a 3 year old, and keeping a goofy husband happy on top of that.

It is not overwhelming if you just plod away at it like I did. If you have even longer before taking the test, you can spread it out more and just study 20 minutes or so per day. Make the commitment. If nursing is truly important to you, you will take the time to learn/relearn these basic academics so that you can be accepted into the program.

Good luck to you!

Janis,

The newer edition also comes with a CD which I used to prepare for the exam. I timed myself on the computer and this helped me a lot. Good Luck!
