West Central Tech. RN uniform order

Hi all,

I have a question--I received the info on uniforms, went to the website, but I am confused as to "what" to order. Maybe some of you have insight. Did you order scrub top "with" or "without" collar? Did you order more than 1 set of scrubs? (Seems like we should get at least 2, just in case). I was thinking about sending an email to ask but I wanted to ask you all first.

Thanks!

I don't go to that school but just wanted to say that I would get at least 3 sets. From what I've heard it sucks to have to laundry every night while in nursing school. Good Luck to you!

I plan on ordering to sets. I will get one with the collar and one without. Since the scrub tops are white, it might be a good idea to have two. I am trying to decide whether I need to purchase the lab coat. Have you found any comfortable shoes anywhere?

Hey Sheri644,

You can order with or without a collar, what ever you prefer. I was told by the company if you have two days of clinicals, then just get two uniforms. I placed my order but the student patch has not been approved yet by the school (because of the switch over to West Ga. Tech). I was only able to get my pants and was told to re-order my shirts around August. I also ordered my stethoscope from there along with the bandage scissors. After getting my scissors, I found out that you could get those from Tractor Supply for a little more than $1. On the website they are over $5. I am going to purchase a couple more pair from Tractor Supply incase I lose a pair. I hear that it happens often! Hope this helps!

Thanks for your answers. I'm getting my physical Tuesday and starting shots. Whew--it's expensive!! I was told by Tanner Occupational that the 3 Hep. B's can not be finished before school. You have to wait 6 months for the last one.

If you have health insurance, try calling the insurance company. Most of them will cover vaccinations. I only needed one and they paid for it. They might also pay for the school physical.

Hello!! I just finished my first year of NS at West Central Tech (soon to be West Georgia Tech). We were only given the option of one type of top when we ordered uniforms. Plus the green pants and the lab coat. I ordered 2 tops, one pair of pants, and no lab coat. With clinicals 2 days a week, that was plenty. Also, stethoscopes, bandage scissors, bp cuffs, etc can all be purchased on ebay for much less than the med supply stores, and most offer free shipping. Look for your books on ebay as well. They are often cheaper than Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Alibris.com is also a good place to look for books. Enjoy your summer, get plenty of rest, and get ready for an interesting ride come Sept. I look forward to meeting the new class at the Orientation Luncheon when Fall qtr starts back up. Feel free to send me a PM with any more questions. Best of Luck!!!

P.S. alot of your shots can be done at the health dept for less. it never hurts to call and ask.

Congratulations on finishing your first year. Do you like the school, instructors etc? What other supplies do we need? We were told about the bandage scissors and stethocope, I have been wondering if we need more. Also do the instructors allow you to tape lectures?

Hi! We had to purchase a nurse lab "kit", it had all the stuff we needed for lab in it, like blood pressure cuff, etc. I'm not sure if y'all will have to buy it too or not. If not, other than steth and bandage scissors, invest in a good blood pressure cuff. But wait until orientation to find out if you'll need to buy the bag. You'll need a GOOD rolling backpack. You're gonna be bringin a lot of books to class, and you'll want to save your back. And yes, if you clear it with the instructor first, they'll let you record the lectures. However, for me, it was easier to take my laptop and take notes on my power point slides during the lecture. But do whatever will work best for you. We each learn differently. We at WCTC have the BEST instructors. Congrats on getting into the program, and good luck!! You'll do great!

Thank you for all the great information. I am looking forward to the first day.

I also just completed my first year of the RN program. I bought 2 sets, which worked out great, since you have clinical 2 days a week. I also bought the lab coat initially, but I never used it. When you are on the floor you are usually too busy to mess with the lab coat, and it also gets pretty hot in it (It not as lightweight as a long sleeve scrub top would be) since you are moving around so much. Hope this helps!

Congrats & Good luck Sheri!

I have 2 sets of nursing uniforms and a lab jacket, but I gotta go get a new pair or 2 of white scrubs (my favorite pair just got too dirty at the bottom and no matter what I did I couldn't get the stains out)! I have this semester and next and I graduate! I am hoping to get into a hospital/facility that I won't HAVE to wear white!!!
