Went on hospital tour...but....

So I went on a hospital tour of UCLA medical center in westwood. Everything is great and i really would like to work for them. The problem is they have mandatory one month of nights and one month of days, on and off throughout your employment. I have never heard of this....is this common? I am a single mom and really dont feel like I can do it. Everything else is basically perfect about it. Any advice?

I just got hired on at UCSF Medical Center and we have the same policy. I think it's a UC thing. The way I was presented it is that I basically bid on when I do nights during a 6-month period. So, I can do 3 months of days in a row, then 3 months of nights. You may want to see if that is a possiblity for you, to make it easier for scheduling. Hope that helps!

I am going to be starting a job where I am doing the 3 months days/3 months nights. Have you been doing it long? How does it work out? I'm nervous about it - as I have kids and, more importantly, I have never worked nights:uhoh3: .

YUK.... Our hospital doesn't have that policy, but they do have the policy where if you were day shift then you have to work night shift "as needed" to cover for lack of staff... It sucks.. Unless you are good at flip flopping around, I would try to do them in a row...

I don't know how it's going to work since I don't start for another month. I'm kind of wary about it, but I hope it will work. I like nights, but flip-flopping kinda sucks...
