Hello Everyone,
Can anyone from fall 2009 whom recieved the Wellstar scholarship from Ga Highlands tell me when did they let you know if you had been awarded the scholarship?
Was it a few months after you were intially accepted to the nursing program?
How does the scholarship work?(Does Wellstar pay while you are in school or are you reimbursed?)
How many days are you in class?
Thanks in Advance:)

@ wanttobehappy, I think all the info was posted in another thread but here is the info I know.
I'm told if you apply to the Marietta campus, Wellstar will email you a application packet to fill out and return for an interview. If the interview goes well and your selected (I think they only take 25 students a semester) then you will be placed at the Marietta campus.
Wellstar will cover your tuition after you complete your first semester at GA highlands, I'm told you will get money back you paid for the first semester once you complete it.
Students also said they didn't hear from Wellstar until like a week before classes started.
Also, once you commit to the Wellstar contract, you have to work for Wellstar for the agreed time (2 yrs) the loan to be forgiven
I hope that helps you some because I plan to appy for the program if I get accepted into the nursing program at GA Highlands
Rojahs3,
Thank you very much for info. I called the person who I sent the application to but she was not sure how the program worked but she did say that they probably will send out acceptance letters the first or second week in June. I hope I get in.

I graduated from the GHC/Wellstar program last May. If I remember correctly, I received my admission letter from the college in early June. Along with the letter was information regarding the Wellstar scholarship program. I was asked to write an essay on why I wanted to become a nurse, then they selected the student for interviews. I think I had my interview in July, and was notified of my acceptance soon after. It was my understanding that if I was not chosen for the program, I would still be in the GHC nursing program, but would be attending the Rome campuses. I attended classes in Marietta for 2 years...I was at North Metro Tech, and Southern Poly Tech, but I think the classes are now held at the Wellstar Development Center on Windy Hill. The first semester was 4 days/week with 7-8 hour days...as the program moves along, it seems that you spend a little less time in the classroom and more time in clinicals. There were 25 people in my class and it was a great experience. The instructors were the best! At the end of the program I was well prepared for the NCLEX....which is what it's really all about :)
I'm now working for Wellstar (which is where I would have worked even if I hadn't gotten the scholarship) I signed a contract to work 3 years full-time as a RN in return for my school. I did have to pay for the first semester out of pocket, but they reimbursed me in full. After that, they paid for everything...tuition, books, uniforms, supplies, etc...up front at the beginning of each semester. Wellstar even hired me as a student nurse extern (a paid position) while I was in school...this allowed me to meet people and find the perfect place for me before graduation.
I hope this helps you. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I wish you the best!
@ Olive, when did you start working as an Extern? This is a career change for me becuase I already have my BA in another field. I'm main concern is a lapse in jobs while in school.
Thank you Olive Oyl.

I am a nursing student at GHC and will be in my second year coming this Fall. I received the Wellstar Scholarship, as well. I agree with Olive on everything she posted in regards to the scholarship. I signed a 3yr contract and you do not receive the money until after 1st semester. They want to see if you can get through 1st semester before they hand over the money. We have classes at the Windy Hill Development Center. Once you get accepted into the program, you will get a packet with your acceptance letter AND information will also be in there in regards to the scholarship. Best advice I can give about the scholarship....Make sure your essay rocks!!!!!
In regards to how many days we are in class....first semester, we went tues9-1230, wed 9-4, thursday 9-1230. Second semester.....tues 9-1230 and wed&thurs 9-4. The two long days are dreadful second semester.
Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!!!
Thanks for the info Starrdan2.

Do any of you guys that have received the scholarship know if Wellstar will allow you to work in labor and delivery out of school? I will be attending GHC for the fall and hopefully I will qualify for the scholarship, but my future plans also include working in labor and delivery so I am just wanted to know how soon after school this would be possible. I know many hospitals want a min 1-2 years of med-surg experience first.
Has anyone reciecved any information about the Wellstar scholarship? How (mail or email) and when do they send out applications?
I was told we would receive information about the Wellstar scholarship at the keys to success workshop July 29th, but that would not leave us much time to get everything turned in, and interviewed, if classes are to begin Aug 18th. But from what I read on the posts here, last year was about the same they did not know what campus they would attend until about a week prior to them beginning.
Thank you Fawn911,
I really wish they would give us more notice because some of us have to rearrange our entire life.
