Hi there! I am an RN up north, and am planning a move to Douglasville sometime in the next year. I want to plan well in advance, so am researching area hospitals. Can anyone give me some insider info on the WellStar system, specifically Douglas? My background is MedSurg/PCU, and high risk L&D. What is the typical nurse/pt ratio on the med surg floors? Typical pay for someone with 2-3 yrs experience? Are the nurses generally satisfied with where they work? I'm willing to sacrifice the pay for a job I'm going to really love. Any little bit of info will be helpful to me. I'm a world away up here, so word of mouth is my best option. Thanks!

OMG, I also am thinking about moving to Douglasville as well. I have been researching nonstop. I lived in north Atlanta a few years ago but left to attend a brick and mortar NP school. What is even funnier--I believe you are from Indy. I am too! I attended Ivy tech and Ball State.
Anyway here is what I can tell you so far. Georgia pay is fairly low. Atlanta pay is the highest in the state but realistically it is not that high. I have worked travel (just finished a 6 month stint at a hospital in GA) I would do 3 nights and then return home. The pay was almost double of what I was making as a staff nurse. Even better--I made lots of friends and it was a wonderful fit. I spoke to a realtor yesterday about Douglasville. Have you seen how cheap the house prices are? Anyway, she told me if I work in Douglasville I should live over the line in Paulding County as the schools are better. Traffic in this part of Atlanta is much better than anywhere else. I lived in Alpharetta before and it is crazy expensive (schools are better but rents/housing is insane, even with the housing bust. There is also a hospital in Carrollton which is the next county over from Douglasville. I "talked" to a doc who was relocating here and he was going to work over there.

Small world! I have some family in Douglasville and the kids and I just love it down there. It looks like Wellstar Temps pays very well for the area. I'm checking into that option too, and I haven't completely ruled out private duty or home care. We won't be moving any time soon, but I want to have all my ducks in a row. Home prices down there are shocking. I found a huge Victorian on the lake for ~150k. Where I'm at, you can't get a decent 1br for less than that. Down there, I can get a 5 br, 3 bath, on 1 acre, lakefront. I can't even stand it! I need to be there right now.

Ummm... I would check out the school systems. Not just take the real estate agent's word on it. Georgia education in general is among the worst in the country. Wellstar Kennestone has a huge L&D and is spectacular. I have a friend that works in the Douglas ER and she seems to like it.
My family members seem to really like the South Douglas school system. Of course, we take an active role at home in the kids' education as well, so I'm not overly concerned about what they will be missing at school, if anything. If not done ER before, other than triage on my LD unit. I'd be willing to give it a shot.

I know this is a really old thread but I just moved to Douglasville! Haven't gone back to work yet since our move to Georgia but I'm starting to look. Are ya'll in the area now?
