2 weeks left of orientation and super nervous!!

Published

Hi everyone! This is my first post on here so bear with me :) I frequently came here during nursing school and before NCLEX for encouragement so i'm really excited to make my first post! Anyway...so I was so so lucky to land an RN position on a Ortho/Bari surgical floor right after I graduated in May and was told orientation would be 6-8 weeks which I was totally fine with. I had been with the same hospital system in school and was very used to their system of passing meds and charting and such, so nothing was very new, other than the unit and the types of patients themselves. Well, I was told by my manager that my orientation will only be 5 weeks and I have gotten praise from many other nurses and herself that I will be just fine (though this still worries me). Our ratio is usually 6 patients (which are generally stable since these are usually hip and knee replacements and gastric sleeve/bypass) and I have taken up to 4 completely on my own and then assisted my preceptor with her other 2 patients. I just was wondering what you all thought of with this orientation time and if you believe that I will be okay. I still have this week and next week with my preceptor. Just looking for positive encouragement I guess!! thanks so much guys!

I think that those nurses with whom you are working would be the best judges of your ability to move on from orientation. Since you have had praise from your co-workers, I would guess that you will do just fine!
