6 weeks to get a fitness routine going

Published

Hello allnurses family,

I am about to start my 6 week internship and will be following my preceptor's schedule. I graduate in December and thought this would be a great time to get a fitness routine going. Let me start by saying that I am traditionally a successful gym rate and pretty good healthy eater, but nursing school has thrown off my rhythm for awhile now. I was wondering if anyone has a 6 week jump start or program they had success with considering our long shifts and sore feet :) I have a gym membership and am not looking to buy any products or subscriptions. I do track my food (usually) but I would like to make the 4 days I have off as effective as possible. I am mostly looking to lose ten pounds or so and keep my cardio in a good place. Thanks in advance!

My jump start has to include cutting sugar and all but the most nutrient dense carbs. I get back into work out mode by making myself simply show up. If I walk through the gym doors 2-3 times regardless of what I accomplish, I start to get the bug again.

My gym doesnt have classes so cardio will be spinning or running on the dreadmill. I prefer weight lifting but I have to do cardio lol. My biggest worry is that I get snacky/nibbly at work and I feel like a bottomless pit when I dont really need to be consuming all those calories.

l found nuts to be the perfect work snack - they really fill me up so I'm not nearly as tempted by all the empty calories around in the middle of the night. I'm still struggling with finding a good time to work out since I've been flipping back and forth between days and nights for the past 8 weeks for a new job. My body isn't super happy with me right now.

I am so used to going to the gym before work but I cant wrap my head around going at 5am and then being on my feet for the next 12 hours. I will have to build up the stamina for that I think :-P. Nuts are a great suggestion.. as long as I dont eat them all in the first hour!! :)
