weekend before start of clinicals...

So i don't expect a detailed answer, but a general answer is ok

I start block 1 this august. The weekend before I start clinicals my friend is getting married. I would basically be going out of town for the whole weekend. I haven't bought my ticket or anything (although i did buy the bridesmaid dress) because I have a fear that school will be too consuming that weekend or whatever. I have let her know already that I might not be able to make it if any instructors advise there might be alot of work.

What are your thoughts on this?

Honestly, get things ready before the weekend, then enjoy that weekend because it'll be the last one to really enjoy for a while. I'm assuming you are starting all of your classes that week? When I started my teachers basically gave me a couple chapters to read and then told us to relax!!!

Does your school make you do an extra trip to the hospital beforehand to prep for clinicals? If not, enjoy your friend's wedding. All you'll do at home is obsess. And it isn't like they give you a test the first day of clinical. That day is usually familiarizing you with the hospital, computer system, getting IDs, etc. Not to worry-going to the wedding won't put you behind.

i actually have class/lecture for a few weeks before the clinical rotation starts

thanks

1st clinical rotation is usually like a orientation...but be SURE not to miss it! You don't want to wind up behind due to that. Enjoy the weekend as you won't have a lot of other free time when school really gets going! (although you could be a total dork and throw your nursing textbook into your bag...as I did many weekends)
