Well, letters are out!!!! I am officially on the alternate list which makes me happy :) Is there anyone out there that was accepted? If so, how many points did you have? I hope that I get a seat. I am going to turn in my stuff to Karen Long tomorrow and hopefully get more information regarding where I stand. Good Luck everyone!
Tips to start with is to read ahead and stay caught up or it will make everything harder. If you don't read you are hurting yourself because it makes everything in lecture make much more sense. Dont miss ANY days and don't be late! More than 10 mins late = an absence and most classes you can only miss twice before you get a 10% reduction in your overall grade. Sounds scary, but they are strict for a reason, it weeds out people that can't hack it as a nurse. Hope you get Ms Broughton for clinical, you will be so thankful, they are all great but compared to my classmates, I've done way more in clinical because of who I'm with.
Oh and they recommend not working for a reason, I worked part time first semester and wished I hadn't, and quit before 2nd started and it was much better. 2nd semester was BRUTAL and made the hard 1st semester feel like a piece of cake. I am a good student too, deans list and 4.0 in 13 college classes before I started this program. Don't work if you don't have to, have to make a 75 or higher to pass, 74 and below are F's. We started last August with 37 and the 3rd semester started with 25!
i so wish i didnt have to work, but i got bills to pay. i only work part time but its six days a week so it takes a toll. I just hope i can fine tune my study sessions to get all that i need read in time. Thank you for these tips! what is the hardest classes so far? and what makes them hard?
All the classes are hard if you don't have any nursing or medical field background. Know key terms and study in increments not cramming. You will get class schedules with all the dates of lectures and what to read and exam dates. Study the end of chapter questions, they like to use those on tests. Hardest classes are in 2nd semester, but in first semester I'd say health and illness, and in skills the check offs are 45% of the grade so you need to do well on those. Check offs are you actually doing the skill in front of the instructor, it's nerve racking but you'll get used to it. It's weird talking to a mannequin but you have to do that too to practice talking to patients, believe it or not it does help. My graduating class will be at yalls orientation in July and can answer any questions then too.
Hey guys!!!! Sorry I'm just now replying! I don't get on here every day like I probably should! Lol! I am so glad that there is someone in the program that we can talk to! : ) I saw that you mentioned something about mrs broughton.... My mother in law is actually a friend of hers and told me just the other day that I am supposed to introduce myself to her lol! I am really hoping to get her for clinical!!!! I am looking forward to orientation and seeing what the program is all about! Luckily, i am not having to work ( thanks to my amazing hubby) so I'm hoping that I never get too overwhelmed or behind! I am excited and ready to begin!!!!
