Can anyone here who has been in the program at Wayne County tell me how much the books are going to cost for the first semester? Thanx

Hi Tasha,
I am a 1st semester nursing student at WCCCD. I think that the books were a little under $500. The med/surg book is supposed to be used for all four med/surg rotations.

They are much cheaper if you buy them online. (cheapesttextbooks.com) And if you buy them not so close to classes starting. The closer it gets to when classes start, the more expensive they become.
Oh yes, the nursing office should have the list of books required & the ISBN #s as well. I would call ASAP for that info. Good luck!

In my experience, WCCCD has never willingly given out ISBN numbers for their books.
They want you to buy your books strictlt from them.
You can ask to look at a book and sneak a peak, but they have no sense of humor if they see you writing down book information.
Just my personal experience at the Western campus.

You're right, except when it comes to the nursing books. The nursing office has the list--not the bookstore. :)

hi tasha,
here is a list of the required books for the first semester. if you need the isbn's, pm me and i'll get them for you.
nur 110, nur 111, 118
fundamentals of nursing. (8th ed.) (2008)
kozier,b., erb, g., berman, a., & snyder, s.
fundamentals of nursing techniques in clinical nursing (5th ed.)
study guide for fundamentals of nursing
understanding the nursing process
carpenito-moyet, l.j.
nurse's handbook of health assessment (5th ed.)
weber, j.
nur 112 & nur 113
all of the above and:
medical surgical nursing (5th ed)
ignatavicius, donna and workman, m. linda
medical-surgical nursing study guide
in addition to these, you will need a medical dictionary such as mosby's (which is awesome!) and a drug guide such as by davis. don't let the people at the bookstore talk you into buying the big careplan book. it's useful for the first semester. well, hope this helps! again, feel free to pm me if you need anything.:)

Thanks, chica! You disappeared for awhile...how have you been?? As for me, I'm sure that you have read that I failed my lab class. I'm working on getting back in the program. Hopefully, I can retake it in January and move past this and still come out on top. I'm confident that it will all work out. It definitely taught me a lesson!
I had password problems on this site for a long time and couldn't log on, and didn't want to take the time to deal with allnurses. But the problem is hopefully solved now, so here I am.
Yes, I read that you failed and I was very sorry to hear that you did. It's still very early, and there is no reason you can't try and start over again. I'm glad to see you have a super-winning attitude. IF I can do anything at all for you, here I am. :icon_cheesygrin:
