  1. Most blood banks such as ARC only use RN's for draws and Quest requires 6 months experience. I got my phlebotomy training at Schoolcraft College. I looked for jobs fruitlessly until I found that some local hospitals are taking on phlebotomists as PCA's. The pay is alright - but the work is very hard. I don't do a ton of draws, but I am learning tons towards my nursing. You can also try to get a Lab Draw job. Network hard and let everyone who you know in the field that you are looking for a job. Good Luck!
  2. Math was 30m questions in about 30 - 40 minutes.....more than enough time. Only a few truly challenging questions in Algebra...mostly basics including fractions and ratios. Definitely watch the reading and FULLY understand the concept of the questions being asked. Pay very close attention to instruction and don't do anything until instructed. Remember to breath and you will do fine......:wink2:
  3. Friend of mine got hers late last week....she passed. I took mine at Schoolcraft during the same week and got my scores last week too....passed also.*YEAH* Be patient.....WCCCD never gets anything back to students in a reasonable amount of time.
  4. There is a store in Westland too across from the Westland mall......
  5. Some ER units will only allow their CNA or PCA's to do triage and add comments into records. Those CNA's and PCA's that work on the unit floors get to do everything from vitals to mortem care - including EKG, Phleb and IV starts. I'm just starting as a PCA and have been doing my evals and clinicals this last week. A lot to learn, but everyone has told me that it will definitely make me a better nurse when I complete my program. Good luck..!!!

I was in the same room with you (Schoolcraft) taking the test and didn't feel too overwhelmed by the time limits. I did notice that there were some people shaking their head after the first hour. I think the NET is over hyped and made difficult by not allowing people the time to understand what is being asked of them. What bothered me was the proctors yelling and harping at the people taking the test. They would harp about procedures, then proceeed with reading a book during the testing periods, and then scream if someone started doing another section or was found to be writing in their test booklet. They need to be a lot more professional in administering the tests and start booting those people who can't follow the simple directions - enough with the screaming and degradation which only serves as a distraction to others. Good luck on your scores!!
  7. In my experience, WCCCD has never willingly given out ISBN numbers for their books. They want you to buy your books strictlt from them. You can ask to look at a book and sneak a peak, but they have no sense of humor if they see you writing down book information. Just my personal experience at the Western campus.
  8. where are you at in michigan? where did you get your adn from? i'm currently taking phlebotomy at schoolcraft in livonia. the certificate requires some other classes, but the phlebotomy training is excellent. other cc in the area are now teaching the course for certification. there are other organizations that also come through the state every 3 - 6 months and will teach you phlebotomy and iv over a full day class for each - cost was quite high leaning towards $1400 combined.
  9. A couple students in my A&P1 class are entering a program through HFH where they complete their courses at OCC and then transfer to HFH to complete their nursing classes. Both of these people are buy-outs from Ford Motor. Just my .02
  10. A matriculated student has been accepted for admission to the college, has registered in a curriculum and is pursuing courses toward a degree or certificate. Sounds like you need to talk to an Admissions Advisor and Financial Aid Advisor and get some issues straightened out. A good Fianacial aid advisr can get you on the right track.
  11. I donated this last weekend and was amazed at the criteria for giving blood. Definitely tell them during screening and error on the side of caution.
  12. Agree 100% Get their comprehensive warranty that covers everything including spills. You will appreciate that there are local service centers for same day repairs and support is in country. I have owned Dell laptops before - but would not again. Think performance and weight when considering. Best of luck!
  13. I'm just starting my pre-reqs this Summer - but interested to hear how your first semester goes. Congrats on getting accepted! James
