Watts School of Nursing June

Published

Wanted to see who else is going to Watts (Mt Olive) starting in June. I just got my acceptance letter today! Wondering who my fellow classmates will be!

Rouss - I'm not sure about the ISBN...I just have the APA writing style book that one of our earlier classes recommended, I think, psychology. Mine is the 6th edition, but

the number is different. I'll bet B&N would have it.

Try this website - it may give you the correct numbers... apastyle.org

Rouss, bless you for working while doing the Watts....I don't think I have the stamina, although I may have to try to get a part time.

Jed, master's isn't required for school nurses, most of them just have it. They do have to have national school nurse accreditation though.

If I were you I would def go until they stop paying!! And if you work while doing the rn to bsn with a duke affiliate then you'll get an extra $26,000 on top of that over three years!!

Keyna, you're not working starting Jan are you?

Barb, I didn't get the recommended book because you can find all that info online. I never used the other one that was required for the english class.

We just have to focus on graduating and passing NCLEX first, then we ca stress about to BSN or not to BSN.

I have all these mixed feelings of excitement, nervousness, terrified, what in the **** have I gotten myself into?! Anyone else with me? Too much off time to think about this stuff!

This is from the NC board of nursing. I asked if they had any information on a timeline for the requirement of a BSN and any grandfathering requirements.....

Angela:

Your e-mailed message was forwarded to me to reply. The Nursing Practice Act states that in order to become a registered nurse in NC a person must successfully complete an approved basic nursing educational program (diploma, ADN, or BSN) and pass the NCLEX exam. There is no discussion at this time to change those requirements. The Board's authority is only the oversite of the basic nursing educational programs. Once a person is licensed as an RN or LPN and they continue to renew that license the license remains "active." If they fail to renew their license the license becomes "inactive" and they may no longer work in a licensed nurse position/role until they re-activate the license.

You may be referring to the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) report on nursing that was issued on Oct. 5, 2010. One of the recommendations was to strongly encourage all nurses to advance their nursing education. The IOM report also encouraged that all RNs have a minimum of a BSN education in order to prepare them for the nursing collaboration and leadership roles that will be necessary in the future. These proponents are being supported by the American Nurses Association and the NC Nurses Association. These organizations and the Board of Nursing are encouraging that nursing education programs develop seamless transitional programs from diploma and ADN to BSN to MSN to DNP or PhD in Nursing.

For more information Google the IOM report on nursing and review the websites of the organizations mentioned. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks for the info Keyna, good to know.

Hey Rum, having a good day?

TAXES?? I still haven't done my NC taxes from last year.......ooooops!

Taxes????? Bleh.....we just did our own last year - saved $400 on a preparer!! But...we almost paid $400 for a divorce!!!! Way complicated with my job and deductions and school and house and everything!!!

I use turbo tax and I don't let my hubby get involved. :lol2: He would cause too much trouble and I would have to divorce him.

keyna- lol!!!!!! thanks for all the info... laughing at the saving $400 dollars thing... heh... whew...

Rum- awwwww... poor hubby...

holy crow!!!! just got the rest of my books... i might have to use my backpacking pack just to haul all of these!!!!!

I bought a rolling bag thingie and I can't fit all of my books in there. Do you think we will need volume 1&2 at the same time? Hopefully not. Then my bag will work.
