Watts School of Nursing June

Published

Wanted to see who else is going to Watts (Mt Olive) starting in June. I just got my acceptance letter today! Wondering who my fellow classmates will be!

this paper for soc230 is stressing me out!

Yep, just finished PSY 331 with article summaries and quizzes each week, starting PSY 330 with article summaries and quizzes each week plus a paper, now SOC 230 with it's papers. Quite a lot, especially with the 3 kiddos out of school!

well, 1st classes down... only 5 left! lol...

5 left? please tell me it's 4 more classes! The research article summaries and papers between the SOC 230 and PSY 330 are going to be the death of me - or maybe my children, poor things!

Is there anyplace to go for an adult beverage after the last class? Kind of mid-way through the MOC process of nursing school kick-back time?? Any ideas? Hopefully we'll get out early that night! (How's that for thinking ahead?)

Hmmm... Adult beverages...

Oh yeah, 4!!! Sorry my brain stopped...

Hey, Lynne,

Yeah, only four left, but that means only four left to write that final paper and project in Psych!! Holey Moley!!

Count me in for the drink - we all need to connect outside class.. we're going to be spending a lot of time together in the next two years.

P.S., Do you have to take Soc210 class later with the rest of us?

Lynne,

Where did you sit in Psy class Thurs? I'm trying to put

online names to names.

Do we need a cover sheetnfor psych? Or an abstract? I have n o idea how to do apa. Adult beverages a must!

jeepinjed - ok, 5th class “psych-out” get together*wine, i’ll try to find a place close by, suggestions are welcome from anyone who has an idea.

kenya - about soc 231 - nope, i got credit for my previous class 24 years ago!!! i’m taking soc 230 - marriage and family- now to fill up the 18 credits – ugh! not my favorite class and at only 5 days in, that’s scary. papers every week 3-5 or 6-8 pages plus a power point presentation. to be honest, i’ve never used power point! i left my hr career before it was common. boy, am i dating myself. my kids have it down pat so i’ll get them to walk me through it.

what’s the best program to use for the psy 330 brochure project?

facing the instructor, i sat on the left side on the aisle, behind debbie and next to jessica.

fvcheer – i don’t know about a cover sheet, but not an abstract, your research article will have an abstract. it sounds like what i did for my psy 331 class last 5 weeks. what the teacher wanted was a summary of the research article (peer-reviewed “quality” article).

i emailed her claiming petrified brain (not sure if i meant hardened or scared!) asking for clarification and this is what she responded

i want you to tell me what the researchers were investigating, who they used, what they did, and what they found. plus a critique of the article - did you like it? how would you change the study that was done (more participants, different racial group, different procedure)? i want the summary to be a substitute for reading the study itself, one that your mom could understand.”

that last line was the most helpful for me to wrap my head around. what i got from **** last night seemed very similar. disclaimer: the quote is not from *****, it’s just what was asked of me in a prior class with a similar assignment.

phew! i need caffeine!

final question for now, is anyone taking medical terminology online starting in august? it runs simultaneously with a&p at watts.

Thanks Lynne!

I finished my math paper this morning....boring!

Where do you get the articles from? With such a broad subject, how did you find appropriate "quality" articles to summarize?

More than a little frustrated  and was hoping not to be too stressed/bogged down this weekend - b-day's Monday and it's the first day of school for the babes :yeah:!!

Looks like I might have to indulge in adult spirits just to take the edge off ...:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Hi All. I just found a great site to locate journals : http://www.sciencedaily.com/news/mind_brain/

And as for the adult beverages - I'm in. What about that place that's right on the corner over 85 (as you make a left onto Croasdaile)- it's an Italian restaurant, I think. Of course, I'd be willing to come back home closer to the Cary/Apex location too.

Go to the MOC site and click on library, then click on Electronic Databases. Then you can use either NC Wise or WilsonWeb.

I'll walk you through NC Wise... you enter your MOC password to enter and then type the topic that you want to find articles about in the search box - you must click GO! or it doesn't work properly! It'll search through the database and give you results.

At the top you can refine or narrow your search by adding words.

On the left is where you can make sure the items are peer-reviewed and in the years since 2000.

On the right, I suggest unchecking NetLibrary and General Resource as they often return book titles - which initially look like winners based on their titles but are not what we need for this class!!

Note: I have had trouble with NC LIVE using Google Chrome as my browser, Internet Explorer works WAY better!

Hope it helps. If anyone has other easy access places to find articles, I'm interested!! Good luck.
