Moving to FT Lewis, WA area...

U.S.A. Washington

Published

My wife & I will be moving to Tumwater, WA. I report to Madigan Army Medical Center [Ft Lewis] for a 3 year committment as a member of the Army Nurse Corps, Active Component [AC] on April 3, 2006. I will start phase II [12 week] of the critical care course on the 23rd, and remain at Madigan as a critical care nurse. This is a life changing event going from the reserves [RC] to the [AC], as well as moving over 2100 miles from Central Texas.

I would definitely appreciate any info related to civilian hospitals within a 30 mile radius would also be greatly appreciated, too. My wife is an ADN RN with +13 years experience in cardiac floor & emergency cardiac care nursing.

Edit Update...

We will be moving to Tumwater, WA. Our new home will be Breckenridge Heights apartment complex with a 2bdrm/2ba & two garages & assigned covered parking, too.

My wife, ADN RN w/+13 yrs exp in cardiac floor & emergency cardiac care nursing, talked via phone with a Providence St Peters Nurse Recruiter. My wife will apply for a position at ST Peters, plus was told they would be willing to do a telephone interview. Anybody have any experience with ST Peters hospital?

If, any WA RNs hear of a Telemetry, or Cardiac ER nursing position please let us know, TIA!

Help! ... please.

LOL, I've been assigned to the 5501st USAH [RC] at BAMC since 2003. Yet, now transferring to [AC] for Madigan and your offering to buy dinner now that I'm leaving Texas.

SmilingBluEyes - Check this out. My sister-in-law gave us three TripTik books, which are AAA travel booklets. Each booklet consist of a series of maps & driving directions with each page covering about 75 miles. The entire route is the same one you sent me.

BTW, our house sale closes this Friday, then we are off to the PNW.

WOOT. Looks like I did not lead you astray. Take care, be cautious and we look forward to meeting you and your wife when we all settle (we are moving into our house about the time you arrive in town). Remember your exit off 101!

Sorry, Corvetteguy, I was dealing with that MRSA thing from July till Jan. and you didn't really want to be around me. Bleh! I've been spending an hour a day in the gym and an hour in the pool. Bleh! :o I missed the conference in San Diego :angryfire

OMG, that was the worse road trip I've made in my entire life. :o

We left Buda, TX around 1500 last Friday d/t we had to wait around for the housing settlement closing, which went very well. However the trip to WA was mind boggling from boredom in Kansas to snow blizzards in Colorado & Wyoming. We arrived in Tumwater March 13th. My son & step-daughter are going back to Texas a more southern route, LOL.

Susan & I do like Breckenridge Heights Apt. Complex, and the area is beautiful. The people here seem very friendly, too.

I was thinking of you guys ----we did that long one from Oklahoma to here ourselves.....LONG and LONGERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr

welcome to WA!

Welcome to Washington. Lots of folks transition thru here and St Peter gets lots of military folks. The pay scale in washington is one of the best in the country. As to the local hospitals. I have been at St Peter for 20 years. We have 60 Rn openings right now. Our Tele floor has lots of turnover. You might also look at ER and ICu/CCu. We have been struggling with the Matrix-a budget based staffing model and you might be seeing morale at an all time low. With your experience you should be appreciated and you can make a niche for yourself --just pace yourself. There might be a hiring bonus and moving assistance if you look into it. There might also be a referral bonus so try to find some one to split it with!!! I am in Olympia, email me if you would like a tour [email protected].

Susan accepted Providence St Peters Hospital offer for employment, and we live less than 5 miles from the hospital.

Welcome to WA Corvette Guy! Glad your wife got a job close by! I will echo RN130's sentiments about WA pay. Western WA is one of the best areas in the country with respect to pay for nurses.
