Wanting to go back to Nursing School... (Advice Needed)

Nurses Career Support

Hello to anyone that can provide advice...

I am looking to go back to school to become a nurse in the next semester or two. I would like to get some advice on what path to take in getting a nursing degree. (Associates or a bacholers degree)

My current education consists of a bachelors in Sports Fitness Management and a masters in Exercise Physiology.

With having these two degrees I did not know if that alters the path to nursing that I should persue or if one path is a clear cut better way to go no matter what my background consists.

Thanks for any advice...

Hi Rusty, it doesn't necessarily alter the path, except that with those degrees qualify you for "accellerated BSN" programs, which are the two years of nursing school crammed into one year, after which you have a Bachelor's in Nursing. These programs only take persons with existing bachelor degrees in other fields.

This is usually the best option because it takes advantage of your core education in the other degrees and is fast. However, you essentially have no life during the program and can't work to support yourself, and it's expensive in that you're paying university prices and paying two years cost in one year so each semester is double what you would pay for a full-time load.

I recommend this route if you can swing it. Otherwise, next I would recommend a BSN which again takes advantage of your core education. But getting an ADN is usually cheaper and can lead to an ADN to BSN degree later which employers might help pay for through their tuition reimbursement program which most hospitals have as a benefit.

Lots to think about.
