Hey guys,
I have too much going on with my kids right now and I really need some flexibility as I believe family comes first. (BUT WE GOTTA EAT!) I'm an LPN with med surg, home health, hospice and seven years coding experience prior to nursing. Is there anything i could do from home? Do you think somebody would give me a chance if I took some medical transcription courses? I wouldn't have experience but I am a nurse, that should count for something. Do you think anyone would let me do their billing? If so, as an independent contractor what should I charge? Can you guys give me some names of some companies I can contact? Please reply guys!! Sorry for all the questions. My kids really need me right now.

With your coding and nursing experience, I would think a hospital could use you. Many of the hospitals in my area have the coders work from home.

My organization also has many transcriptionists who work from home. However, this is not an easy job. It requires very fast typing skills - payment is based on productivity - and extremely high degrees of accuracy.
Thanks a bunch for input. Do you know any organizations I could contact? I am in TN.
I imagine that it is similar to our set-up, so I would suggest you contact the HIM (Medical Records) departments in large hospitals. They manage the transcription service.
