I just started taking the new drug Chantix 4 days ago to help me quit smoking. They say the usualy SE are nausea, constipation, weird dreams. Since I have been taking it I have been extremely tired. I mean tired. Has anyone else tried this drug? What SE did you have and did it help you quit.

I have been smoking for over 20 years and I have tried everything else. I want to quit and I am ready, but it's just so hard. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks everyone for your advice and support. I'm getting pumped up to quit now. My quit date is this Friday. It's probably a good thing its on the weekend. My boyfriend, who I've been with for the past 21 years(I'm 35 so you do the math;) ) doesn't smoke and he hounds me every day to quit, so I suppose thats good. It will shut him up!:lol2: I haven't smoked in my house in a long time, because I hate the smell of it. Our hospital is going smoke free May 1 so that is also a big incentive. Also I have quit before and I know how good I feel when I'm not smoking. I don't want to be one of those poor old ladies with COPD fighting for every breath.:o

I have been alittle nauseated and tired with the Chantix, but I would like to hear from anyone if they have had bad experiences with this drug or if they have found it interacts badly with another med.

Thanks again everyone and with me luck. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Specializes in ER/Trauma.

I smoked for 9 years.

Then, I woke up one morning and told myself "That's it! I won't let this thing have any power or control over me anymore.

I quit!".

It's been over a year now.

Haven't touched a butt since.

I'll crave a pipe sometimes or a good cigar, but it's a momentary thing.

Unless you really want to quit - all the aids and interventions won't help.

You have the power within you.

You just need to use it.

Nothing beats will power.

cheers,
