Hi there. I am a student in an ADN program that will be graduating in May (Just seven more weeks:)!!) Anyway, I am very interested in moving to Arizona from Iowa, and have been looking at the Phoenix area (my brother attends ASU), Scottsdale, Flagstaff, etc. I am looking at living outside of the "big city" but am completely willing to commute to a center that has the right fit. I would love to hear from any of you that could recommend anything relating to my move. Nice areas to live (i.e. the cities themselves or nice suburbs/surrounding cities of Phoenix), places to work, and pay scales. I would also love to hear about the places you would NOT live, work, play (at or near.) I would greatly appreciate any specifics that you could give me to help me to narrow down my job search areas. I have been looking into the area for several months now, but being thousands of miles away, my search depends on talking with others from the area. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out. :)
well, the family and i just left Prescott last summer (spouse's career) and we've been kicking ourselves for it ever since. i would recomend it to almost anyone that wants nice small city living without the suburb feel. pays less than phoenix and costs more to live there, but i still think its a great place to live. also they are building another hospital in prescott valley so getting work should be pretty easy if your spouse/sig. other is in the industry. if they are in another industry, make sure they have a job before going because a commute to the phoenix area is 80+ miles with only about half on interstate. feel free to PM me about Prescott questions if you like.
Pinon Oaks is a fairly new developement with nice houses as is the development off Sandretto, Montana Estates has condos of varying size. these are all out by Embry-Riddle on the north end of town. to the south, Yavapai Hills and the development behind the mall are very nice. if you're looking at a more independant housing arangement (non-development homes) then the Historic District, Groom Creek, and the homes between Willow Creek road and Williamson Valley Road are nice.
hope this helps

Thanks to all you current and former Arizonans (?) for the information. I have long planned to move to AZ, but decided to finish school first so that I can have an actual career there. I should be graduate with my ADN at the end of 2006, and be able to move in early summer 2007. Can you tell that I am counting down the days :) .
I am coming from Louisville, KY. Summers are unbearably humid here, I do not go outdoors at all in the summer. Winters are pretty cold, but I hate the cold so much that they seem worse to me than they really are. I just want to be somewhere with nice weather year-round.
I have been planning on the Tucson/Oro Valley area. I would like to have something a little more green, little less desert though. I have no urge to live in Phoenix. If I could find somewhere that doesn't get below 40 in the winter and does not get unbearably hot in summer, that would be great. I would like to look at Payson, but I don't know if I want to live in a small town.
My daughter is a competitive gymnast, another reason I was planning on Tucson is because they have several good gyms there. I have also heard that TMC is an excellent place to work.
Well, just wanted to get my two cents in about how much I am looking forward to moving there. Maybe I'll see some of y'all in a few years!
