Hello everyone.
I am currently working full-time in an OR. I've been there for about a year and a half now. I'm miserable and would like to leave the OR and move on to a new department.
I am a fairly new nurse. I graduated in May 2016 and started working in the OR in August of 2016. The OR, at least in my case, has offered me very little opportunities to do "nursing". I haven't even started an IV since nursing school. I feel like what little knowledge or skills I may have had are all gone....pretty much feel like a new grad at this point.
I don't know what areas would be a good match for someone like me and I'm looking for suggestions.
There are a lot of ER and Telemetry jobs available in my area, but I worry I won't be able to keep up. Is med-surg my only option? Or would an ER or Telemetry job be ok?
Any advice or or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. :)

Start applying for everything that interests you. See who calls back and what sort of training they're willing to offer. Then, you'll have a decision to make.

Some hospitals also offer transition programs (I know CHLA but not certain about others) for experienced nurses to transition into other specialties.

After some med surg experience, I dabbled into case management. It opened up a management career which eventually led to working in the Quality dept.
i wouldnt change my job for the world.
I became allergic to gloves, so I had to figure out what i could do as a nurse without being so hands-on.
now im blessed to work normal hours and to not be too stressed.
I dont know if thats what your looking for, but there are other options out there that can lead you to places you didnt think you could get to. I also have my ASN and learned experience and working your way up can go a long way.
