Specializes in Head Nurse Anaisthetics.

I'm looking for a job in Montreal because my wife was born there ,she is a Canadian citizen and my son too and i have many relatives there.

I have 20 years experience in anesthesia nursing ,i have been head nurse in the Anesthesia department of General Hospital of Korinthos the last 4 years .

My wife is a registerd nurse too,she works in Cardiologist department of General Hospital of Korinthos and she has 23 years of experience in nursing. She use to work many years in Surgery Clinics .

Now we are desperate and we want to leave Greece ,do you know if there are jobs for us in Montreal .?????

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

Contact the hospitals in Montreal that have cardiology and cardiovascular surgery programs (Montreal Heart Institute, McGill University Medical Centre, Montreal Children's Hospital, Hopital Ste Justine, Royal Victoria Hospital, Jewish General Hospital) and speak with someone in human resources. They'll be able to tell you how likely you'd be to get a job in a reasonable amount of time. The harder part will be obtaining a nursing license in Quebec. There are several threads here and on the international forum about that topic, so check them out. Once you have some more specific questions come back and we'll talk.

Thanks ,i know that to get a job on Montreal the most difficult proplem as a registered nusre is the language.

France language is the most harder part of the licence in Quebec,in others countries of EUROPEAN COMMUNITY we think that we don't have so manny problems.

Thanks again sir.

Also note that the RN's in Quebec get paid less from what I understand than the RN's in most other provinces. Their starting wage is much lower. Perhaps consider going to a different province.

It's difficult to us ,because of the relatives, they live all in Montreal ,perhaps in kingston there is a change,it's 2,5 hours faraway from Montreal.

I call today my mother in low amd she promise that she speaks with a friend who is a Doctor in Monteral General Hospital.

We must put all the details on, to see if we can be RN's in Quebec and how hard is for us.

Here in greece the financial crisis is on our heads.

We dont know if we have

pay for the next month and if they have money to pay us.

All the employees of the hospitals are in a big confusion.

So nearly i must take the chance!!!

Unfortunately, having your mother-in-law contact a doctor at a hospital really isn't going to help much. Nursing employment in Canada doesn't depend on who you know as much as it does working through the process. Health care in Canada is a public service, not a private business so hiring is entirely managed by the human resources department of the hospital. The other thing is that Canadian nurses are unionized and unions have very explicit regulations over things like hiring, wages, benefits and scheduling. (That's actually one of the biggest things that makes nursing in Canada such an attractive notion for most IENs. Not so uch that we're unionized but that we have such carefully-crafted contracts.)

One of the biggest hurdles you will face in having your suitability assessed is your nursing education. Second will be your language skills. How strong is your French? If you decide to live and work in Kingston, then you will need English-language skills. (Just an aside here... in Canada 2 1/2 hours' drive is not faraway. We measure distances in how long it will take to get there. Five days is usual from Montreal to Edmonton, for example.)

I feel for you in your situation. Sadly, there won't be any rapid way to fix it.
