Okay I am just now finishing up my bsn after twenty three years and I want a position as a case manager. I plan to attend a masters program in case management, but I want to go back to work now cause honestly I am tired of trying to be on a budget cause I only work two days a week at a nursing home as a CNA instructor. I decided I wanted to be a case manager in the hospital after I worked as a case manager in home health for three years. I was waiting for this one particular position to open up and I was passed over due to the fact that they wanted a nurse with a BSN.I have worked the floor for 19 years as a charge nurse at the same hospital and resigned after a surgery due to the fact I had to find a position I could do while I was in school. My question is how do I go about getting a job as a case manager. Do I just start applying anywhere I see an opening for one. I have noticed that also alot of the case management positions advertised wants you to have experience in utilization review. The town I live in only has two hospitals and case manager positions are few and far between, but I am willing to relocate if that is what it takes. I have 10 more years on the job market.

UR is not brain surgery. It is simply identifying the acute signs and symptoms and treatments justifying the necessity of acute care. The only hard part is doing it when there aren't any! Interqual and Milliman are pretty much self explanatory guidelines. Willing to move, try Florida - tis the season.
