Waitlisted @ HFCC and need suggestions

Published

Hello All! I'm new here; and happy to be a member :wink2: I have a situation and I'm hoping to get some good advice/suggestions from the folks here.

I'll be put on the waitlist at HFCC soon. I'm excited but also kinda bummed because the earliest I can start is Fall of 2010. I kept having financial aid issues and would have to wait to register, meaning that the Chem 131 and A&P classes were beyond filled up by the time I was able to register. This was the first semester that I didn't have those issues and thus, I was able to register for classes on the day registration opened up-so I finally got to take my Chem 131 to get waitlisted. I've already finished up all the classes I need to take, except BIO 234 (I've taken pharm, psych, soc, etc) which I'll be taking in the Fall of '09. I want to get an idea of what the heck to do until the Fall of 2010-classes to take beside BIO 234, maybe? Or take time off until I get my letter (don't know how that would affect my financial aid, though)? I just really have my heart set on HFCCs program because I know it's a good one. ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks :redpinkhe

I know many nursing students I have class with that took patho before the program (yes you can do that) and said it has really helped them! Also there are some extra nursing classes that you may be able to take before hand (not the programs classes) just extra nursing ones (like patho) those should give you a good heads up on the rest! Good luck!

Why wouldn't you be able to postpone to Winter 2010 if you couldn't accept in Fall 2009? You wouldn't have any lag time then.

honestly, i would take med. term. yes they give you a packet to learn in the first semester, but with everything else you are learning having to memorize that also is a pain. plus they start of the lectures using the medical terms for stuff and i was like huh? i also took patho. it was not an easy class, but it is helping.

another option would be if you're planning on going for your BA then check which classes will transfer to another college and start taking one or two.

 Thanks everyone. I'm going to take Micro and Patho while I wait (I already took med. term.). I just have to be careful that I don't take too many credits and bump up against the 93 credit limit before I'm done!

If you do, just go and see a counselor and they'll sign you off or give you an exception or some other magic thing. Lots of students pass the '93' thing, and it's not something that will stand in the way of finishing nursing school.

Good choice on the Micro and Patho. Here's hoping the wait goes much faster than you were told. You may be surprised!

Just as a point of info I have all my pre-req classes done and have been waiting since Jan 08 with no news of starting anytime soon. I have since went to another school and am in a program. So if I were you I would try to get those classes done ASAP! Good luck to you where ever you wind up going:)
