Waiting Lists (To Get Into Nursing Schools)...

Published

While researching...I've come to find out that the waiting lists to get into nursing school at the schools in my area are 1 to 3 years. What do you all do with your idle time while on a waiting list? I was thinking about obtaining my LVN in the meantime. But based on comments here in the boards, some have said that that would just be a waste of time.

When is the best time to apply for a program(s) with extensive waiting lists?

And what do you all do with your idle time while on a list?

Sorry, if I sound naive. Im a new pre-nursing student. lol

Hi, Jazzie

I don't know much about waiting lists b/c in my area, there isn't any. We just have to re-apply every year. But, I can tell you what I think. I would apply to every school in your area. While I was waiting, I would start taking my pre-req's. I.e. A&P, micro, english, psych, math etc. I would try to apply to as many schools that had similliar requirments, and start working on them. As for the LVN, I don't know, I know a lot of students, do go that route, only to find out, when they graduate, there is another waiting list. What I mean is, yes, you could get your LVN, while your waiting, but you could just as easily start taking your pre-req.'s. Another option is check out the 4 year schools and diploma programs. Many university's don't have wait lists, if your going to be waiting 2 years for an ADN program, you might as well do the whole 4. Good luck.

Are you talking about a community college?? If you plan on going on for your BSN, you could take the pre-req's for that. I know in my area, you need Chemistry, Statistics, and a foreign language.

I have a 1.5-2 year wait for the nursing courses. I am starting on the non nursing classes in March. I am only taking 2 classes a quarter and should finish those around the time I get into the nursing program. This coming quarter I will be taking Chemistry and an intro to health care class.
